Indochina refers to the lands geographically bound and influenced culturally by India in the west and China in the north. It is a massive Buddhist bloc.

Nationals in most of these countries are expected to be Buddhists. To become a Christian means disloyalty to their nation. Pressure and persecution from family and community are heavy emotional tolls to bear.

Religious militancy has a lucid picture in this region where Christians are a significant minority. In Muslim communities, secret believers silently profess their faith in Jesus but continue to live the Islamic way.

China and North Korea

China is the world’s most populous country and a major regional power in Asia. It has developed one of the world’s earliest civilizations.

For 15 years, North Korea ranked no. 1 in the world watch list of countries with the worst persecution of Chirstians.

During the communist control, foreign presence and growing influence in the country which were strongly met with varying degrees of resistance for decades faced fresh oppositions. Christianity which was brought by western missionaries and seen as carriers of foreign persuasions was heavily persecuted.

Himalayas

Himalaya, “the abode of snow”, is where the world’s fourteen highest peaks and three major river systems can be found. The altitude in most parts of the region, the biting cold air, the rugged terrains, the steep mountain slopes are the physical strains that Christian workers have to first to overcome in reaching the peoples of the Himalayas.

Strong resistance to the Gospel which is born out of their deeply rooted religious beliefs has imprisoned them for centuries is like a big barrier.
